WATERFALL SURVIVORS JOINS GLOBAL DAY OF CLIMATE ACTION TO SPREAD MOST IMPORTANT NUMBER IN THE WORLD

One of over 5,000 simultaneous events in over 180 countries

3-5-0 formed at 3.50pm

Rawang: October 25th—Waterfall Survivors joined tenth of thousands global communities from over 150 countries in a symbolic Save Our Waterfalls (SOW) Campaign at Kanching Waterfalls here today.

Held simultaneously with over 5,000 events around the globe, the event was a part of a Global Day of Actions coordinated by 350.org to urge world leaders to take bold and immediate steps to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions.

Volunteers on the way up to pick up rubbish

More than 350 volunteers participated in this event with more than 450 bags of rubbish. A 3-5-0 was formed with the rubbish bags collected together with the participant at 3.50pm local time.

“Malaysians are still not aware of what is really happening to our Earth. Besides cleaning up the waterfalls, today’s event is also aimed to educate about this unique global event,” said Waterfall Survivors President and Founder Joe Yap.

Volunteers formed a human chain to transport rubbish

With the support from Tourism Selangor, this auspicious campaign is officiated by YB Edward Lee Poh Lin, Assistant Exco Tourism, Environmental and Public Affairs of Selangor State Government.

“We in Tourism Selangor will give our full commitment to support this program as well as other program that shares the same objective in saving our environment. This is also important for Tourism Selangor as it can play a pivotal role in promoting and bringing forward the eco-tourism in Selangor” said YB Edward Lee during the opening address.

Forming the 3-5-0 with rubbish

The auspicious event was endorsed and supported by the Selangor State Government, Tourism Selangor, Majlis Perbandaran Selayang and Jabatan Pertahanan Awam Malaysia, Selangor.

Around the world today – from capitol cities to the melting slopes of Mount Everest, even underwater on dying coral reefs – communities held rallies aimed at focusing attention on the number 350.  In recent years, scientists have insisted that 350 parts per million is the most carbon dioxide we can safely have in the atmosphere. The current CO2 concentration is 390 parts per million.

Images of the events from around the world, including the Save Our Waterfalls rally in Hutan Lipur Sungai Kanching, were featured on giant video screens in Times Square in New York as part of a 350 countdown, and are accessible at 350.org the website’s online photostream. Visual documentation from the Day of Action will be delivered to the United Nations on Monday.

The Waterfall Survivors Committes that made this a REALITY!

These global actions come six weeks before the world’s nations convene in Copenhagen, Denmark for the United Nations Climate Change Conference to draw up a new climate treaty. A total of 89 countries have already endorsed the 350 target, as well as Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change chairman Rajendra Pachauri, world’s foremost climate economist, Sir Nicholas Stern and Nobel prize-winner Al Gore.

“People have said the science of global warming is too confusing for average citizens to understand but yesterday’s events proved that millions of people understood exactly what is at stake in the next few years, and that they wanted swift action to safeguard the future,” says 350.org founder Bill McKibben in a Press Statement posted in the organization’s official website http://www.350.org

Mooncake Festival with the Underprivileged Children in PSPK Selayang.

4th October, a day that Waterfall Survivors did something different. We went to the underprivileged center in Selayang. PSPK Young Generation Center which is leaded by Mr Henry.

There were 14 of us. The children was waiting at the center for our arrival. 47 children with a few single mothers. All happy faces to welcome us.

Henry introduced himself and told us some background of PSPK. Took a stroll to have a look at their office which is a block away. A nice 3 storey building. Grd Floor was the office and meeting place. 1st floor is the computer center and the 2nd floor is the sewing center.

The PSPK is giving tuition classes, computer classes.. and other self development classes for the children. While Sewing classes for the single mothers to obtain skills to support their children.

The center also takes care of community services like counseling and etc to the community living in that area.

After the introduction by Henry, we all headed back to the center with the children. Jane started off with a game with the children. Guessing the value of the things she showed. i.e. Candies, biscuits, chocolate and so on.. Whoever guesses the right value gets the goody. The moral of the game is to let the children know that although they come from broken family or poor family, god created them with a value. Hope that they understand that and study well and live well to be our future leaders.

After the guessing game, we played musical chair with the children while Jane playing the guitar for the song. Whoever that does not get their seat will need to do funny acts. Well... the kids was so so funny and really having lots of fun. But... well.. the funniest of all was our MS JOE...  with her big huge butt.. showing the children to use their butts to write alphabets...HAHAHAHAHAHA...

After the musical chair session, the kids queued up for their goody bag that we brought. In the goody bag has 2 mini mooncake, a fish biscuit, a lantern with a packet of candles, a packet of Mamee, a packet of drink and a BROS bottle.

After everyone got their goody bag, we all gather outside the center for a group picture

Waterfall Survivors would like to take this opportunity to thank BROS Bottle for sponsoring the bottles for the children and WS members that participated in this event by contributing time, effort and some cash for buying the stuff in the goody bag - Cindy, Aaron, Jane, Teh, Alvin, Ee, Richard, Soo Wei, Esther, Jasmine & Hubby, MC, Joe's Mom & Friends. A million thank you and God Bless You..

Our Adventure to Nyangung & Seminyang Waterfalls

Armed with the GPS, looking for Nyangung Falls, 7 Waterfall Survivors members started our adventure from Kuala Lumpur at 0800. Have a nice breakfast at the Karak Town. Jungle Boy Ben who's from Telemong has not seen the falls himself. But with the coordinates that Harry gave.. we started our way through the offroad in Ben's little jeep... Getting near to the coordinate of the falls... Where is the trail head???? Oopss... No trail...

We had to scramble down some soft soils.. (very soft....) and started bashing through the jungle... Ben was far ahead.. looking for the right way to go down... After a short scrambling down... We could hear the sound of the waterfall from far.... I think we are near.... Ben shouted from far...

After walking another 50 meters.. we saw the riverbank ahead of us... To our excitement... we added our speed to see the falls...

YES!!! We found it... That's Nyangung Falls... A fall that Joe has always wanted to see...

After taking some pictures...We decided to continue our adventure for the day to Lata Seminyang. We left Nyangung after half and hour...

Hmm.. a trail leading up... Good.. we'll take the vague trail. Climbing up the steep slope... we could see that we are reaching the road soon.. The trees was fallen as there were excavators pushing all the trees down to make a logging trail... So we had to climb pass the tress on the steep slope... not an easy task..

We finally made it to the top. Climb on Ben's little jeep and continued our journey to Seminyang. We reach the campsite near the river. Joe decided to take the river trek instead of the jungle trail. Down the river all of us went. Was a nice river trekking... Suddenly.. Joe heard a loud noise... turned to look at Ben... "Yeah.. I heard that too" Ben said.. It was MAYBANK... the tiger's roaring sound...

Along the river trekking, we used small bundles of dried leaves to create some fire and little smoke... To inform Mr Tiger that we are there... PLEASE DON'T COME....

Along the way, we heard Mr Tiger roared another time. This time was nearer. We quickly continued our trekking and stayed as close to each other as possible. We reached the Seminyang Falls safely.

We had a good dip at the Seminyang Falls. This time.. the water volume at the Seminyang Falls was not as great as the last time Joe went. But it's really beautiful and amazing.

We had our lunch at the falls. The weather was not promising and we decided to head back. Going back to the car was easy... We took the jungle trail that is less than 20 minutes.

We enjoyed 2 nice waterfalls, nice scare by Mr. Tiger, nice trekking, nice clear waterfall. Everyone was starving.

After the waterfalls, all of headed to Ben's house nearby.  A real nice place for relaxing... we were greeted by Happy... Ben's St. Bernard... and Mui Tao.. the cute dog who loves to swim. Fishing Pond, Passion Fruit Trees... such a nice home Ben has..

To sum up the day, we went to Bukit Tinggi for a nice dinner before we head back to Kuala Lumpur.
